Rated 9 for +Infrequent/Mild Cartoon or Fantasy Violence , Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humour
Monster Park
From what I’ve seen, it really is MILD violence. The fighting parts where you pit one Pokémon against another is mostly just coloured lights and such shot at each other. I would however still advise 9+ simply because you need to be able to read the instructions and what people are saying. It doesn’t read it out for your.
NOTE: Make sure you create an account before you play. If you play on guest and then your app has to be deleted or you accidently try to login with Facebook for example, you will lose all your progress.
Game Basics
You start of as with most Pokémon games. You create an avatar and choose from one of three starter Pokémon: Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur.
You travel the area, collecting Pokémon, battling other Pokémon and increasing your level and your Pokémon’s stats.
You find most of your Pokémon by exploring the area. For example you will find grass Pokémon while walking through the grass and water Pokémon while fishing. As with most apps there are daily bonuses for playing everyday and you can possibly earn a rarer Pokémon by collecting every day for a week.
Pokémon have genders in this game and you can breed them. However breeding involves taking a male and female of the same species and transferring them together. In exchange you get a new Pokémon of the exact same type. You will find over 400 different Pokémon from various generations and Shiny Pokémon too.
There are different poke balls you can use – Regular, Great and Ultra balls but also poison ball, ground ball, fire ball and more. The speciality poke balls make it more likely that you will catch those type of Pokémon.
Battles
There are two ways to battle.
If you come across a Pokémon in the wild, you will have to battle it. If you win the battle without knocking out (KO) your opponent, you will get a chance to keep the Pokémon by throwing poke balls at it. If you KO the Pokémon, you will get an effort point which you can use to upgrade your Pokémon’s abilities.
There are also challenges/quests you can complete which can earn you effort points, candies and more. There are daily and weekly quests.
In battle you can use potions to heal. Just as in the original Pokémon card game, you can get confused, burned, poisoned, asleep, paralyzed etc. There is no blocking in these battles. It’s possible you or your opponent could miss but otherwise, you take what is thrown at you.
Training
As mentioned above, you use your effort points to increase your Pokémon’s stats: HP, Defense, Special Defense, Attack, Special Attack and Speed. You use candies to level up your Pokémon. You can also increase your Pokémon’s strength by collecting or earning various materials. There is another stat called Breakthrough. Once you collect evolution stones you will be able to evolve some Pokémon as well.
As with lots of other mobile games, there are in game buy options and the ability to chat with other players as well as invite your friends to play the game and then you can friend them and challenge them to a battle.
